Fractional CFO Support for Reno Small Businesses
Know where your money is going. Make a plan for what comes next.
Your business is growing. The money decisions are getting bigger. You need more than a report showing what already happened—you need someone to help you decide what to do next.
I’m Rachel van Huyssteen, founder of Two Miles LLC. I help small business owners in Reno, Sparks and Northern Nevada connect their numbers to real decisions: when to hire, what to charge, how much cash to keep, and whether the next opportunity makes financial sense.
Fractional CFO support gives you ongoing financial leadership without adding a full-time finance executive to your team. Clean books are the foundation. A clear plan is the point.
Fractional CFO support starts at $1,500/month. Your exact plan depends on what your business needs, and we'll talk it through on a free consult.
Is this the support your business needs?
You don’t need to reach a certain size before you start making more intentional money decisions. This may be a good fit if:
- Sales are growing, but cash still feels tight.
- You’re thinking about hiring, buying equipment, or adding another crew.
- You want to know which jobs, customers, or services actually make money.
- You have monthly reports but aren’t sure what to do with them.
- You need a plan for slow seasons, tax set-asides, and owner pay.
- You’re preparing to talk with a bank or other lender.
I work with growing small businesses, including contractors and skilled trades across Reno and Northern Nevada. The goal is practical support that fits how your business runs—not a stack of reports that sits unopened.
What we work on together
Your support is shaped around your business. We agree on the priorities and scope before we begin.
Cash flow forecasting
Build a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast so you can see expected money in, money out, and potential tight spots. We’ll use it to plan for payroll, supplier payments, debt payments, and larger purchases, then update the assumptions as your business changes.
Budgets and a workable financial plan
Turn your goals into a budget you can use. We’ll connect revenue targets, expenses, hiring, equipment, and seasonal needs, then compare actual results with the plan and decide what needs to change.
Monthly reporting, KPIs, and a money meeting
Get clear monthly reports and a focused set of key performance indicators—the numbers that matter most to your business. In a monthly money meeting, we’ll talk through what changed, what it means, and the next actions to take. You’ll have a place to ask questions in plain English.
Pricing, margins, and job profitability
Understand what it costs to deliver your work and what is left after those costs. We’ll look at pricing, labor, materials, overhead, and margins so you can make better-informed bids and spot work that keeps you busy without paying you enough.
Financing and bank readiness
Organize financial statements, cash flow projections, and supporting records for lender conversations. We’ll connect the proposed payment to your cash plan and help you explain the numbers. Financing decisions and approval remain with the lender.
Financial controls and better routines
Put practical checks around spending, payments, access, and cash handling. Clear responsibilities and consistent routines help reduce avoidable mistakes as your team grows.
QuickBooks and clean books as the foundation
Reliable decisions start with reliable records. We’ll identify QuickBooks setup, cleanup, reconciliation, or monthly bookkeeping needs and agree on how that work will be handled. The goal is a dependable starting point for your forecast and financial plan.
Entity, S-corp, and Nevada compliance coordination
Organize the financial information and questions you need for conversations with your tax preparer and legal adviser about entity structure or an S-corp election. We can also coordinate Nevada business filing reminders, records, and responsibilities within the agreed scope. Tax elections, legal decisions, and filing advice belong with the appropriate professional; this support does not include tax return preparation or legal advice.
How it works
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Start with a free consult | Tell me about your business, what feels unclear, and the decisions ahead. We’ll talk about whether this support fits. |
| 2. Build the starting plan | We’ll assess your financial records, choose the first priorities, and agree on scope. If the books need attention first, we’ll plan that work too. |
| 3. Put the numbers to work | We’ll build your forecast and reporting rhythm, meet monthly, and adjust the plan as your business changes. |
Why Two Miles?
I’m a working Financial Controller for a multi-entity company. I bring that hands-on perspective to Two Miles: reliable numbers, clear processes, and financial information owners can actually use.
You work directly with me. I’ll explain the numbers without making you feel like you should already know the answers. We’ll focus on the decisions in front of you—not add complexity for its own sake.
Based in Reno, I understand the value of straightforward conversations and a practical plan. My role is to help you see your options more clearly and move forward with purpose.
Common questions
What does a fractional CFO do?
A fractional CFO helps you plan ahead using your business’s financial information. That can include cash flow forecasts, budgets, pricing and margin analysis, and ongoing decision support. “Fractional” means you get that support on an agreed basis rather than hiring someone full time.
How is this different from bookkeeping?
Bookkeeping keeps the records organized and up to date. Fractional CFO support uses those records to help you make decisions about cash, growth, spending, and profitability. Both matter; the books provide the foundation for the planning.
Do my books have to be perfect before we start?
No. We’ll assess what’s usable and what needs attention. If cleanup or catch-up work is needed, we’ll agree on that scope before relying on the numbers for planning.
Can you help with contractor and trade businesses?
Yes. We can focus on job margins, labor and material costs, payment timing, equipment decisions, and cash needed between doing the work and getting paid. The priorities depend on your business and the information available.
Will you handle taxes, entity choices, or financing approval?
I can help organize records, model financial scenarios, and coordinate questions with your tax preparer, legal adviser, or lender. I don’t prepare tax returns or provide legal advice, and I can’t guarantee financing approval. Those decisions stay with you and the appropriate professionals.
What does an engagement include?
We’ll agree on the scope around your needs and the condition of your records. The starting plan will make clear which forecasts, reports, meetings, and supporting work are included, along with who is responsible for each task.
Let’s make your next money decision clearer.
Tell me what’s happening in your business and what you want to figure out. We’ll start with a free consult and a practical conversation about the next step.
